EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals heal from the emotional distress associated with traumatic experiences. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on helping the brain reprocess disturbing memories so they are no longer emotionally triggering.

During EMDR sessions, a trained therapist guides clients through a series of bilateral stimulations—such as eye movements, taps, or sounds—while the client recalls traumatic or distressing experiences. This process helps the brain "reprocess" the memory, reducing its emotional charge and allowing the individual to develop more adaptive beliefs.

EMDR is particularly effective for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it is also beneficial for anxiety, depression, phobias, grief, and other emotional difficulties.

Brainspotting

  What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a powerful, brain-based therapeutic approach that helps individuals access, process, and release trauma, emotional pain, and deeply held negative beliefs. It works by identifying specific eye positions—“brainspots”—that correlate with areas of emotional or bodily distress stored in the brain.

During a Brainspotting session, the therapist guides the client to focus on a brainspot while being attuned to their internal experience. This process allows the brain and body to process unresolved trauma and emotional blocks at a deeper, neurobiological level—often beyond the reach of traditional talk therapy.

Brainspotting is effective for a wide range of issues, including:

Trauma and PTSD

Anxiety and depression

Grief and loss

Chronic pain and physical symptoms

Performance blocks (e.g., athletes, performers, professionals)

At League City Counseling and Education Center, our trained Brainspotting practitioners create a safe and supportive environment for deep healing and self-discovery. This approach is especially helpful for clients who feel "stuck" or overwhelmed by emotions they can't fully explain.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is a developmentally appropriate therapeutic approach used to help children express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through play—their natural form of communication. Just as adults use words to process emotions, children often use play to make sense of what they’re going through.

In a safe and supportive environment, a trained play therapist observes and interacts with the child using toys, art, stories, and imaginative play to help them process difficult emotions, improve behavior, and develop healthy coping skills.

Play Therapy is especially helpful for children facing challenges such as trauma, anxiety, grief, divorce, behavioral issues, or difficulty adjusting to life changes.

Couple Counseling

At League City Counseling and Education Center, we offer evidence-based couples counseling to help partners build stronger, healthier, and more fulfilling relationships. Our therapists are trained in a variety of effective approaches, including the Gottman Method, Imago Relationship Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

  • The Gottman Method focuses on strengthening the friendship, improving communication, and building emotional intimacy. Based on decades of research, this approach helps couples reduce conflict and increase shared meaning in their relationship.

  • Imago Therapy helps partners uncover and understand the deeper emotional patterns that influence their interactions. Through structured dialogue, couples learn to transform conflict into healing opportunities and deepen empathy for one another.

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) helps couples identify and shift negative interaction cycles, strengthen emotional bonds, and create secure, lasting connections. EFT is especially effective for couples who feel disconnected, stuck in conflict, or emotionally distant.

Couples counseling is available for all stages of relationships—whether you’re dating, engaged, married, or rebuilding after a rupture. Our therapists provide a safe, supportive space for both partners to be heard, understood, and empowered to grow together.
